More about W5R...

Around the perimeter of W5R is approximately 60 acres. The property is bound by Highway 67 on the south boundary and Country Road 196 on the west boundary. The downhill slope from the main house and barn makes for fantastic views of the property and the surrounding country hills. The multifunctional uses of the grounds with open pastures and three ponds, creates the perfect landscape to support livestock grazing and wildlife species that you will often spot roaming in the back pastures. Additionally, 1/2 acre of land is leased to Blackies Gas Stop for parking, and this venture allows for a rental income of $5,000 a year. In the town of Stephenville and the surrounding cities, you will find a significant amount of things to do in the area such as Fossil Rim, Rough Creek Lodge, Loco Coyote, Blackies Gas Stop, floating the Brazos river, and the soon to be Erath County Fair and Rodeo grounds. These attractions and the easy access to Highway 67 make for an exceptional opportunity to develop the property into a commercial entertainment businesses, or to enjoy with your friends/family.

The History of W5R

As previously mentioned, the history of the now "Welch 5 Ranch" runs as far back as 1894. Around this time is when the main use of the property was for a blacksmith shop, where Stephenville residences would stop by to utilize the metal workings produced by members of the family pictured here for decades. Metal latches, horseshoes, nails, screws, axes, hammers, you name it! This was during a time where these type of materials were in high demand. The family of 19 pictured here is just one of the many long-term owners and caretakers of the property. There would be plenty of others after who helped maintain and carry on the tradition of maintaining this beautiful peace of land located in the hills of Chalk Mountain. Just a few short years ago, in 2017, W5R was born and the property was transformed into the countryside oasis that it is now. Needless to say, W5R is known as a historical landmark and recognized by many long time Stephenville natives as such.
